FAQs

Why aren’t you posting any content online?

When the whole idea of The Southwester came to me, one thought was very much that I wanted to keep this project as offline as I could. Whilst there are many benefits to online, in fact I would find it very hard to sell the paper without it, I wanted the experience of reading the paper to be as analogue as possible. I liken it to when you watch the trailer for a movie, but they show you all the best bits. So whilst it gets you really excited for the actual film, when you then see it in the film, it doesn’t always have the same impact. Anyway, that’s my justification. Hopefully it won’t prove too much of a barrier to you ordering a copy!

What paper are you using?

The idea was always that The Southwester would be printed on that classic, “salmon” pink newsprint. Think The Financial Times. But this option is only available when printed on virgin paper.

And let’s be honest, even though we think the details matter, in this case, does ‘good’ colour come above ‘good’ planet choice.

So, the website will be salmon pink and the paper will be printed on 52gsm off-white 100% recycled paper, made from UK-sourced recycled material.

Tell me about the printing…

The oil-based inks used are VOC free.

The paper is also printed with energy created from solar panels at the printers warehouse.

How do you take payment?

We use Stripe and Paypal.

How are you shipping the papers and what is the cost?

Your copy of The Southwester is sent 2nd Class Royal Mail in a plain brown envelope. It costs £1.55 for UK orders and £5.00 for international. So we can post copies of the paper worldwide.

When will I receive my copy?

Issue 01 is currently in stock and so will ship in 1-2 days. Work on Issue 02 has just begun and we are working towards a print date of Summer 2022.

Can I cancel my order?

You can cancel your order up until the newspaper goes to print.
